I am very excited to announce that a multi-language DVD entitled “How to Make Sushi Rice” will soon be released. The DVD is produced by rice vinegar maker Mizkan and will feature directions in English, Spanish, Russian, Korean and Chinese.
In the meantime, you can check out both the English and Spanish versions online at www.youtube.com. Just type in my name and they will come up.
In this video, I demonstrate the entire process of making sushi rice: from washing, rinsing, cooking, mixing, stirring, to storing. We feel this video is a very important step in increasing awareness of sushi across the country and even the world.
So often when you go into grocery stores or restaurants that have sushi bars, what looks like sushi, doesn’t taste like sushi. Why? Because those who preparing the sushi rice have not been trained by a Japanese traditional sushi chef, but rather are basing their techniques on only what they have seen. Our sushi schools help close the gap between food preparers who are visually self-taught and those who understand the flavors necessary for making good sushi. Being in multiple languages is, of course, one of the most exciting aspects about this DVD project, as this allows for us to reach an even wider audience.
